Ceres's interior. Cutaway computer illustration showing the interior structure of the dwarf planet Ceres. Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt, which lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. It is thought to have a surface (grey) consisting of a mixture of water ice and various hydrated minerals such as carbonates and clay. At is centre is probably a rocky core surrounded by an icy mantle. Ceres may also have a remnant internal ocean of liquid water under the outer layer of ice.
