GONAIVES, Haiti (March 10, 2005) -- Navy Builder 2nd Class (SCW) Tom Hurlburt (a native of Dansville, ) levels up a block of the school building wall which he and fellow Seabees are building in Gonaives, Haiti. Hurlburt is a member of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion One (NMCB-1), based out of Gulfport, Miss. Hurlburt is a member of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion One (NMCB-1), based out of Gulfport, Miss. Hurlburt, the project supervisor, and his crew are building a three-room schoolhouse near the site of a Haitian elementary school which was badly damaged in the flooding following the hurricanes of 2004. NMCB-1, along with other units from the Navy, Army, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard, is contributing to New Horizons, a three-month humanitarian and civic assistance project in Haiti sponsored by Commander Southern Command.
