The French, beseiged in Paris, attempt to break through the Prussian lines on the 19th of January, 1872, win a great battle and turn the war in their favour. Supported by the guns of Mont rien, the French march in three Columns of 84,000 men. The Germans, secure in houses and entrenched behind walls in the village of Montretout, poured a deadly fire into the columns of soldiers. The French strategy did not succeed and an Armistice was signed on the 25th January 1872
