Embankment Lamp With Dolphins

Albert Embankment, Lambeth, on river Thames London. Standard lamp with entwined pair of dolphins around a fluted, wreathed column with spherical lampholder and crown finial. The bases decorated on two sides with insignia of the Metropolitan Board, other two faces inscribed '1870' and 'Vic Reg' (Victoria Regina) Also show name of the foundry Masfield & Co, and designer C Vulliamy. Pedestals has bronze lion head with a mooring ring in its mouth.
