The chartertherefor was granted March 21, ISOS. The firstprincipal was Rev. Isaac Chnton, his first engage-ment being for two years at 8200 per year. He wassucceeded by Stephen W. Tayler, who held the po-sition for twenty years. Mr. Tayler was succeededby Elium E. Barney and Cyras M. Fay as associateprincipals, the former remaining two and the latterthree years. Mr. Fay was succeeded by HeniyMaltby, who remained untU the close of 1S35. A new academy building was erected in fiist term in the new building began withHenry Banister as principal. He was succeededin a short time by Harrison Miller, the latter in1839, by David P. Yeomans and David P. Mayhewas associate principals. Mr. Mayhew remained incharge for some years alone, but from 1843 to 1850,he was associated with Franklin Moore. In June,1852, WiUiam E. Adams was appointed principaland served in that capacity for many years. Hewas succeeded by Lincoln E, Rowley, who was suc-ceeded by the present principal. William H. 1861, two wings were added to the building,making the building into its present form. Manyimprovements have since been made, large sums ofmoney expended, and the LowvUle Academy is to-day a first-class educational institution, and thebuilding a modern and up-to-date structure.
