Maxwell and wife, at the Grand Hotel, New York was found robbed and brutally killed in her room by a chambermaid on August 16th, 1898, Her killer was never found. Kennedy returned to his dental practice, He died aged81 in August 1948, nearly 50 years to the day after the murder of his former patient Dolly Reynolds
