Underneath was the inscription: Tabernacle, his pulpit; the world,his audience. The back of the platform was hung with crimson plush,embroidered with gold. In the centre stood an enormous bouquet of liliesand roses. The front of the galleries was draped with plush, heavily embroid-ered in gold, and EVERYWHERE WERE THE STARS AND STRIPES draping the cornices and windows, twined about pillars and outlined againstthe other hangings, so
