Genetic code research. US geneticist Joseph Yourno (born 1936) of Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), New York, USA, with a blackboard showing his research. Yourno and his colleagues worked on the genetic code that controls the production of proteins by cellular mechanisms. The blackboard shows frameshifts and transcription from DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) to mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid).
