The no-walls guest room, The Flower House, at the Dune, a 50 roomed eco-resort on the Coramandel Coast in Tamil Nadu. Established by French native Dimitri Klein, this is one of the first true eco-resorts in India. Built from recycled or sustainable building materials collected from the province - mud, straw, bamboo, it is also armed with efficient water and electricity regulators, consuming only kilowatts of energy - about a third of what a hotel this size normally would. When it has finished being fitted with reverse cycle air conditioners, set to occur in a couple of months, this figure will halve again. Water is solar heated while grey water is treated and pumped to the on-site organic vegetable gardens with windmills. Plastic is banned, all products in guest rooms are free trade and organic, and most kitchen waste is converted into compost.
