US DUKW amphibious vehicle transporting cargo across the beach at Anzio, Italy, during World War II. This six-wheeled amphibious vehicle is colloquially known as the Duck. It was modified from the CCKW US Army truck with the addition of a watertight hull and a propellor. It was the first vehicle to allow tyre pressure to be changed from the dashboard, due to a Speir's device. This made landing on soft sandy beaches much easier. DUKWs were first used in November 1943 during the Invasion of Sicily. Photographed on 15th April 1944.
