Robert the Bruce, also known as Robert I, 1274-1329, was king of Scotland from 1306-29 and is famed for freeing Scotland from English rule, in winning the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 and confirming Scottish independence in the Treaty of Northampton in 1328.
