The British attackedvigorously at daybreak,but were very cleverly out-maneuvered and three quartersof them surrendered. In September the Americans, com-manded by Gen. Greene, were again victorious in the Battleof Eutaw Springs, about sixty miles southeast of , which was the colonial capital of South Caro-lina, was succeeded by Columbia in 1790 for the sake of amore central situation.
