Habitat—Central Africa: Country between Lake Victoria Nyanzaand Lake Naivashoe. This is a new species of Hartebeeste recently shot by Mr. F. in British East African Territory, who in his letter to me, datedOctober i8go, says : I do not think it is likely to extend furthersouth, but of course it may extend to the Cape for what we know; ifit is A. caama it may do so, but I am inclined to doubt its being thesame as the S. African animal. I seem to have an idea that the oneat the British Museum is very much darker, and the horns different,but this is only from memory, and I cannot be sure. Up north allalong the top of the Elgeyo Escarpment (continuation of Mau) intoTurquel, to the north and north-east of Mount Elgon, it is common,and takes the place of A. cokei.
