Ferry Road Walberswick viewed from across Dunwich River towards River Blyth

Harbour front homes on Ferry Road Walberswick. Dunwich River in foreground at low tide with current into the River Blyth. Photo taken from one of the main crabbing bridges. One of the most iconic views of Walberswick is this of its fishermen's huts and houses on stilts. They were once far more numerous, but the great storm of 1953 washed many away and the picturesque Tea Rooms too. Walberswick is a picturesque and well known seaside village in Suffolk. Walberswick was a busy port trading in fish, cheese, corn, bacon and timber from as early as the 13th century right up to the First World War. Silt and the ever-changing coastline caused the decline of fishing and trading; and today's village is growing increasingly concerned about its existing sea defences.
