Traditionhas it that this bath was constructed under theorders of the Midiammadan Subahdar Taki Khanfor the use of the ladies of his harem. The old Dutch cemetery of Balasore is anotherplace of interest. At the time when this was aDutch settlement many notable Dutch factors orotticials Avere interred BHIIVrAPUR. • There is a veiy ancient and large villao-ecalled Blumapnr on the sea-sliore at a dis-tance of eight miles to the south-east of Bala-sbre. Ill a jungle by the side of a high sand-bank on the shore, is a broken image of BhimaDevi, known to the people as Kahka. Verylikely the place has derived its name from thatdeity. Formerly this A^illage was granted to aBrahmana family who still reside here. There aremany ancient tanks in various parts of thevillage. One of those was very large ; it is nowdried np, with a part of it under residents recollect seeing in their youth theremnants of stone Avails on two sides of thetank. These are now buried at the time of excavations in thisvillage, a very l^eautiful life-sized image ofJaina Tirthaijkara A^ardhamana Svamin wasunearthed from the depth of three statue is finely sculptured.
