Northern goshawk. Juvenile northern goshawk (Accipiter gentilis). This bird is found throughout North America, Europe and north Asia, inhabiting coniferous forests and forest edges. Adults are slate grey to black in colour, with red eyes, while juveniles are brown with yellow eyes. Females, which are the larger of the sexes, measure up to 60 centimetres in length. The northern goshawk is an aggressive predator that hunts small birds, often in flight, and small mammals.
