This 1890s Wisconsin artist (1860-1920) sits in his studio surrounded by his works. It is thought that he also lived in the same room. He had studied art in Germany and returned home to make his living. His father owned a saloon, and over the years this artist occasionally painted near-lifesize oils of reclining nude women to sell to tavern owners when proper portraits and cityscapes were not selling. Later, he taught at an area art school.
