Mir space station damage. Damage to the solar panels of the Spektr module of the Russian Space Station Mir. On 25 June 1997 Mir was struck by a Progress unmanned supply vessel. The collision punctured Spektr near the base of this solar panel, causing it to depressurize. The crew successfully isolated the damaged module. Spektr is one of several science modules which have been added to Mir since the core of the space station was launched in 1986. This image was taken from the space shuttle during mission STS-086 (25 September to 6 October 1997), when the American astronaut David Wolf replaced British-born Michael Foales as a Mir crew member.
