Newark Terminal—Plan of Ground Floor ward is regarded as one of the most important featuresand the plan was adopted only after careful study haddemonstrated that no other would afford real relief. Thesubway is designed for two tracks but widens out to pro-vide for five tracks on the sub-surface or basement of theterminal. Of these five tracks, two will be for unloading and threefor loading, the cars turning a loop after discharging theirpassengers and being brought into position for the startof their outward trips. Separate platforms will be pro-vided for all tracks, each one long enough to accommodateseveral cars at one time, and independent stairways forincoming and outgoing traffic will prevent confusion andminimize crowding.
