A woman making wicker basket at Suriya’s house. Suraiya is a widow from Shadipur in Sonargaon. She has four daughters and two sons. She borrowed 100,000 Taka to set up her basket business, of which she has already repaid 70,000. She has 20 craftsmen who work with her. They make 200 baskets a day. They supply the baskets to shops in Dhaka and Uttara by trucks and vans but some baskets are also exported to Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Shadipur, Naryanganj, Bangladesh. January 28, 2007.
