Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station
Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. The brown building in the foreground is the new station under construction, due for completion in 2007. The top of the geodesic dome can be seen to the left of the new station. The Dome served as shelter for the buildings beneath it, comprising the station, for 30 years. It will be dismantled once the new station is completed. Amundsen-Scott is one of three research stations in Antarctica. The National Science Foundation operates them all.
