Alien ice planet. Artwork of the surface of an alien planet. The icy surface crust has been broken up into plates which move and collide in a similar manner to polar ocean pack ice on Earth. This feature indicates a body of water or soft ice may exist beneath the crust. In the solar system, the Jovian moon Europa displays a similar surface structure. There are theories that deep ocean hydrothermal vents and the existence of liquid water could provide an environment for life to exist.
