In his early life he was an active and successful physician,but gave up his large and remunerative practice for theministry of the gospel, to which he devoted his life andability. He gave his denomination a sure standing in theKingdom of God. He was an earnest advocate of temper-ance, and spoke for prohibition whenever and wherever pos-sible. He was a great believer in education, and that hemight help Elon College in a very direct way, he gave up hispastorate, and devoted himself to the financial interests ofthat institution. >•••••••••••••»••••-
