HONG KONG,HONG KONG SAR,CHINA: MAY 14th 2020. Wartime Communal Kitchens Hong Kong. During WWII, Hong Kong prepared for Japanese attack. Field stoves and food stores were build in the hills round the Eastern Districts of Mount Parker and Taikoo. As Hong Kong fell to the Japanese in just 18 days in 1941, the facilities by Mt Parker were never used. Those by the Taikoo operated to provide food to locals at Braemar Hill as rationing struck food supplies. They operated for only a month before the invasion. All the stoves now have been left ;slowly reclaimed by the surrounding bushland on the Quarry Bay Tree walk. Alamy Stock Image/Jayne Russell
