He served in the State Senateof South Carolina, and was a leader in all measures contem-plating leniency to the Tories. He received from that bodya solid gold medal as a token of appreciation for his servicesin the Revolution. He died on his plantation near Georgetown,S. C, February 27, MONTGOMERY. This county was named for Richard Montgomery, who wasborn in Ireland, December 2, 1736, and settled at KingsBridge, New York, in 1773. In 1775 he was elected a delegateto represent Dutchess County, New York in the First NewYork Provisional Assembly.
