Edited the Knosville W/iii/from 1839 until November, 1861, when il was suppressedby the secessionists, and he was imprisoned. Defendedslavery, but opposed secession. After a year he wasallowed to pass through the Northern lines. When theUnion army captured Ivnoxville he started another news-paper, andvigorously supiiortcd the jirosecution of thewar.
