The world's only existing P-38 G Lightning fighter sits on vigilant watch over Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson as an subarctic dawn rapidly approaches, Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012. A P-38 G was the first airplane in Alaska to score aerial victory over Japanese in World War II.
