This image shows a class of boat called a B14 racing in the estuary of the River Exe, Devon, Great Britain. The wind's force on the sails tends to make the boat want to lean over. The crew are able to prevent this by using their weight to balance the boat, in this instance using both 'wings' fitted to the side of the boat, and a wire, called a trapeze to actually stand on the side of the boat, thus shifting the weight further out.
