The Bulkeley High School for lioysis a fine stone building of generousand substantial architecture. It waserected in 1871 at a cost of about$40,000. Its founder, Leonard , was bom in New London in1791. He died in 1849 and deviseilthe greater portion of his property forthe founding and maintenance of afree high school for boys, to be calledthe Bulkeley School. Ihe fund atthe time of the death of the legatorwas about •^21,000, which was allowedto accumulate until 1871. when it hadincreased to the very considerablesum of *70,000, a sullicient amount 36.
