Tobring about bony union ofthe fragments and avoidsecondary displacement re-quires a long period ofrest in the proper postureand the wearing of well-fitting supportive apparatusfor an indefinite time after-ward. The strain on thebody of the vertebra in the erect posture and in doingwork is enormous, while the formation of new bone is notvery abundant. We know from recently reported cases.
