With 6 Figures. Since the early researches of Boll, 69, the glandula submaxillaris ofthe rabbit has been the subject of many investigations on the part ofhistologists. This observer believed that the gland might well be re-garded as the type of a whole important series of glands, formed onthe same plan. The character of the cell, with its polygonal form, prominent nucleus and abundant cytoplasm, which after treatment withosmic acid became dark and granular, led him to consider it a pureserous gland. Later observers, notable among whom were i^ussbaum,Langley, and Miiller, were able to confirm his opinion as to the pureserous nature of the gland, and noted in addition that certain of. thecells were loaded with granules, while others possessed a clear cytoplasmfree from granulation.
