For partial sets of teeththe Cheoplastic process ispeculiarly applicable, theperfect accuracy of the adaptation of the base secures so firm anadhesion to the mouth as to render clasping to any of the re-maining natural teeth almost always unnecessary. A singletooth or several teeth situated in different parts of the arch, canbe replaced with the greatest ease, and they are so securely re-tained as to occasion no inconvenience or annoyance to thepatient. The only precaution necessary to be observed in theirconstruction, in addition to that of accuracy of adjustment andneatness of execution, is to thicken the projections of the waxplate between the remaining natural teeth sufficiently to preventthe liability to breakage of the metal at these points. Theseportions, when very narrow, should be made double the thick-iicss of the other parts of the plate. After having adjusted. 796 CHEOPLASTIC PROCESS. the artificial teeth, and made thera fast to the wax plate, theteeth of the model should be cut off before making the otherhalf i>f the matrix, as it would be almost impossible to separate thetwo halves without breaking the teeth and other important parts. A piece from which one or more teeth have been broken canbe easily repaired. If any portion of the tooth remain it isremoved, and the metal that united it to the base filed away. Anew tooth is selected and ground until it corresponds with theadjoining teeth. The floor of the groove filed in the base iscovered with a piece of wax of the thickness of that used forthe plate : the tooth is then put in place, wax applied on theoutside of the upper edge, filling the groove in the plate ; thenapplied on the inside, filling the hole or groove in the back ofthe tooth, designed for its attachment to the base. This ischiefly done with the wax knife (Fig. 282) made hot
