(Abstract) THE ANALYSIS OF WATER GAS PURIFICATIONMATERIAL E. C. Uhlig,Brooklyn, N. Y. This research was undertaken to ascertain the comparativevalue of the methods published for the analysis of this material,and to obtain a method which would give reasonably accurateresults in the shortest time. Material when received is saturated with water and tarrymatter and has to be dried before grinding. 100 grams are placedin a water-jacketed oven at 90° to 95° C, until dry enough forgrinding. It is unsafe to hasten the drying as some sulphurmay be volatilized. The sample is then ground in a mill asfine as possible. The methods of analysis tried were all based on oxidation ofthe sulphur and subsequent precipitation as barium methods differed in the manner in which the oxidation waseffected. The barium chloride solution for precipitation wasadded one c. c. at a time from a burette to the boiling solutionto be precipitated; the boiling continued 10 minutes and the solu-tion allowed
