These handsome premisescomprise three separate blocks,the first, fronting West Street, beingthe offices of the Municipal Depart-ment ; the next, containing themain hall (with seating capacityfor 3,500 people) and smaller con-cert room, supper room, etc. ; andthe third, fronting Smith Street, devoted to the municipal library, museum, and art gallery. The grandproportions of the building and the architectural features are most impressive,and form a fitting hotel de ville for a municipality which in so short a periodhas accomplished so His Majestys Theatre—Interior Durban Museum This Museum is now greatly improved with the enlarged accommodationprovided in the new premises, which are situated on the first floor of the TownHall, in Smith Street, immediately below the Art Gallery. There are two spacious rooms—one of which is 96 x 72 feet, whilst theother is 73 feet square—and these two rooms are divided by a connecting hall,69 x 31 feet, and a fumigating chamber ; in addition to which there are severalsmaller rooms which will be utilised for different branches of science, and aset of apartments below the basement for the curator and his staff.
