A blustery autumn day at Goldington Power Station, south of Bedford, with Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST ED No. 9 at work. Whilst at Goldington, I sensed a sympathetic approach to continue with steam traction, this was quite pronounced and I later learned that the superintendent’s wife was a direct relative of Richard Trevithick and that some of his possessions had passed into her family. Consequently, one of the engines was named Trevithick. The two RSH 0-4-0STs in service at Goldington were both oil burners.
