Thefur in its natural state is yellowish, spotted, andmarked with brown, and is unfit for use until it THE C03IMON SEAL The length of the common Seal is about four or fivefeet, and its weight often two hundred and twenty-fourpounds. There are many Seals known, among which are theSea Leopard, a spotted species; the Harp Seal, socalled because the markings on its back resemble aharp; the Sea Bear, and the Sea Lion. The Walrus inhabits the northern seas. Its mostremarkable point is the great length of its upper ca-nine teeth, which extend downward for nearly two feet, woods natural history 57 and resemble the tusks of the elephant. They furnishvery fine ivory, and are extensively used by dentistsin making artificial teeth.
