Thirlmere Aqueduct passing through the village. Built between 1890 & 1925 The mill & 'Model Village' was built on a Greenfield site in 1843. The developer was Thomas Blinkhorn Parke, the son of Robert Park, a local cotton mill owner. The house build for the workers all had gardens & outside toilets.
