It is an improved form of the famous Chas. Downing of bygone days. The plant is vig- orous, though not a rampant grower, succeeds. upon almost all soils, invariably yields heavily and the berries are always of large size and highest quality. Its flesh is solid and deep crimson in color, while the blossoms are large, with abundance of pollen. It begins to ripen quite early and continues until almost the close of the season, the last berries being large, hand- some and full-flavored. Dozen, 50c.: 100, $: 1,000, $ STEVENS LATE. —Here is another de- scendant of the Gandy. Like the Gandy, it ripens late and is similar in many respects. However, the berries are not so uniform in size and shape and not nearly so handsome as the Gandy. Housewives will find it excellent for canning, since it will hold its shape and re- tain its flavor.
