BEIJING CHINA MAY 2006 The headline in the May 24th 2006 edition of Legal Times over a picture of a group of women demonstrators reads, "Ao Mei Ding should face a large law suit." Ao Mei Ding means "man-made fat". This colloid was popular with back-street plastic surgery clinics for breast enhancement because it was very cheap but in May 2006 it was banned by China's State Food and Drug Administration after numerous cases of alarming side effects emerged. A class action is now being brought by Beijing lawyers on behalf of 100 Ao Mei Ding victims including women whose breasts had to be removed after being the colloid was used for breast enlargement .
