Charles McDermott, son of Patrick and Emily (Ozane) McDermott,was born in West Feliciana Parish, La., September 22, 1808, and died inDermott, Arkansas, September 13, 1882. He prepared for college in Jamaica, N. Y., and Plainfield, Conn., andunder a private tutor in New York city. He entered the Academy fromSt. Francisville, La., in 1824, and graduated in 1826. He entered the Juniorclass of Yale University and graduated A. B. in 1828. He studied medicine with his brother-in-law. Dr. Barnes, and practicedin West Feliciana, La., until 1844, when he removed to Chicot County,Ark., near Dermott. In 1850, he located in Monticello, Drew County, Ark.,but in 1855, returned to Dermott, where he made his home until his death.
