This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Martian surface, Mars Express satellite image. Overhead view of the mouth of Kasei Vallis, an outflow channel on Mars. North is at top. The channel may have been carved long ago by glaciers or by water outflowing from sub-glacial lakes. Impact craters dot the surface and streaks of lighter coloured soil show that the prevailing wind direction in this region is from the north- east. Data for this image were obtained on 18 February 2004 by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC). The image measures 130 kilometres across.
