The larva when first hatched is of a uniform orange color, with a black head. When full grown it averages inches in length and is nearly cylindrical. The most common color is green verging into blue, each joint with six transverse wrinkles. There are four longitudinal yellow lines each equidistant from the other, and each interrupted by a pale blue spot on the first and fourth wrinkles of each joint. There are traces of another substigmatal line. On each wrinkle is a row of various-sized, round, black, piliferous spots, those on wrinkles one and four being largest and most regularh 10.
