Entrance portal with fired brick and clay construction, mausoleum of Koja Ahmed Yasawi, Turkestan, Kazakhstan

Turkestan is famous for some Timurid era mausoleums such as that for Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, the famous Turkic poet and Sufi mystic (1093–1166). The structure was commissioned in 1389 by Timur, who ruled the area as part of the expansive Timurid Empire to replace a smaller 12th-century mausoleum.
