The protest was organised by ’Justice for Northern Ireland Veterans’, a group outraged by the recent prosecution of former British Soldiers, who previously served in Northern Ireland during Operation Banner (1969-2007). The arrests have been described as a politically motivated witchunt by MPs and former soldiers, including Northern Ireland Secretary James Brokenshire, and UK Prime Minister Theresa May. The group, fronted by former SAS soldier Robin Horsfall has said: “No one wants to admit that we fought a vicious war against the IRA on British soil. We now find that politicians are offering those of us who fought terrorism as sacrificial lambs (whilst) those very same gangsters thugs and criminals who slaughtered innocents on a daily basis walk free with letters of comfort and immunity from prosecution” The protest, which began at 11am (GMT) runs parallel with similar demonstrations, in both Glasgow and Northern Ireland.
