A temporary stage, bunting and other decorations in Bradford city centre to mark the Coronation of the British monarch, King George VI, on 12 May 1937
A little boy gazes at a temporary stage set up in Bradford city centre, Yorkshire, England, in the run-up to the Coronation of the British monarch, King George VI, on 12 May 1937. Above the stage are bunting and other decorations. This photograph was taken by a Yorkshire married couple, George T Blenkhorn and Kathleen Blenkhorn ARPS (Associate of the Royal Photographic Society), and comes from a Blenkhorn family album. The boy is George and Kathleen's son, George H Blenkhorn, who was born in 1931 and so would be six years old in 1937. King George VI, father of the present British Queen, Elizabeth II, succeeded to the throne in 1936 on the abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII. Edward married Wallis Simpson and the couple were subsequently titled Duke and Duchess of Windsor.
