Battery Hanstholm II with four 38 cm SK C/34 naval guns developed for Bismarck class battleships and modified for coast defense guns in 27 Verteidigungsbereich Hansted called Festung Hanstholm (Hanstholm fortress) in Hanstholm, North Jutland Region, Denmark. August 20th 2010, was one of the most heavily armed defensive fortifications in Danish part of the Atlantic Wall during WWII built to protect entrance to Skagerrak. Atlantikwall (Atlantic Wall) was built from 1942 to 1945 by Organisation Todt (OT) of the Nazi German occupation forces to prevent the Allied forces to land troops on the shores of Nazi-occupied Europe from France–Spain border to northern Norway. Some 2000 bunkers were built mainly on the North Sea coast of Denmark where 4 defense unit types were created: Widerstandsnest (smallest independent defense unit), Stutzpunkt (several Widerstandsnest), Stutzpunktgruppe (several Stutzpunkt) and Verteidigungsbereich (the largest defense unit). Fortifications were built, but were not fully equipped and armed, and they did not take part in the fight in 1945 © Wojciech Strozyk / Alamy Stock Photo
