Carpal tunnel syndrome surgery. Anaesthetist injecting a local anaesthetic into a patient's wrist prior to surgery to treat carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). CTS is a painful condition caused by the compression of the median nerve in the wrist. Severe cases are treated surgically by cutting the carpal ligament in the wrist, thus relieving the pressure on the nerve.
