The distributioneffected is excellent, but the weight of the apparatus is great andthe cost of operation very high. At Hanley the distributor for aquarter-acre bed weighed 12 tons; a 45-lb. bridge rail aroundthe filter was worn out in two years and a half; and the cost ofrenewal and supervision amounted to ten dollars per milliongallons of sewage distributed.
