Enthusiasm and success are stamped all over the scheme for raakdng the stations of the Canadian Pacific Rail- way the links in a flower chain ex- tending across the continent. N. S. Dunlop, the chief of the C. P. R. claims department, 12 years ago in- augurated the free distribution of flower seeds to station agents and others, and the beautiful flower gar- dens by which so many of the com- pany's stations are surrounded in the summer months are the direct result. In this direction the company has given an impulse to civic pride all over the dominion. It has been no- ticed wherever the station agent or section men establishes a garden with the seeds supplied free from the com- pany's floral departments, the enthu- siasm for flowers invariably extends to the whole community and fosters pride in the beautifying of the homes of the people. Mr. Dunlop has sent out the annual packages of seed, no fewer than 50,- 000 packages, representing 32 varie- ties being distributed in 1,500 gardens across the continent. Agents, section men and employes, together with their wives, vie with each other, and now wherever there is a C. P. R. station, section house or ofiice building, there flowers will be found. Later on thousands of plants and shrubs will be sent out, while last fall 200,000 tulips, hyacinths, lilies, cro- cuses and iris bulbs were distributed.
