Benkei with two oni,Japan,Meiji period A three-piece bronze figure of the young Benkei in nigurome and akagane. Benkei wearing a jimbaori,a tachi(damaged and repaired)and a tanto protruding from his belt,holding in his raised arms an oni with a wicker vessel(the attachment replaced)and forcing a second oni to the ground with his left foot. Benkei's clothes decorated with intricately embellished,accurately gilded peonies,shishi,and Kiri mon. The figure of Benkei and the lying oni signed "Miyao" in gilt cartouche.
